Gondang Hasapi started with rice keepers in the rice fields who wanted to entertain themselves and relieve boredom by playing music they had created themselves. While looking after the rice, he takes the leaves of "Alo-Alo" (in the Batak language) and splits them into threads.
What used to be rope made of bamboo skin, he replaced with palm fiber which was then called Riman rope. That is the story of the discovery of the Husapi musical instrument,
the old beliefs of the Batak people
Toba use of traditional musical instruments in ritual ceremonies and traditional ceremonies
aims as a means of communication to the spirits of the ancestors and Mulajadi
nabolon. Ritual ceremonies on the old beliefs of the Toba Batak people are not
apart from the use of the gondang sadinding and hasapi ensembles.
Old beliefs believe that the musicians are the gondang sadinding ensemble
and gondang hasapi equal status with the spirits of the ancestors who
can convey all their requests through the sounds that
played by gondang music players to start being nabolon. So during the ceremony
rituals or traditional events take place, the gondang ensemble players are highly respected ,,
Unfortunately, nowadays many Batak Toba people have abandoned the early traditions of the use of HASAPI, due to the great influence of Western music which has made generation after generation different views in assessing the origin of their culture.
