Javanese Central Hindu Ganesha 8th - 9th Century
According to Kundalini yoga, Ganesha occupies the first chakra, which is called the muladhara. Mula means "origin, main"; adhara means "base, foundation". The muladhara chakra is an important thing that is a manifestation or widening of hidden divine power points. Gansea's relation to this is also explained in the Ganapati Atharwashirsa. Courtright translates the statement as follows: "[OGanesa,] You always occupy the sacred vein at the base of the spine [mūlādhāra cakra]." Thus, Ganesha has a permanent abode in every being who is at Muladhara. Ganesha holds, supports and guides the other chakras, so he directs the forces that drive the life chakra.
Ganesha is identified with the Hindu mantra Om (Symbol: ॐ, also spelled 'Aum'). The term oṃ(ng)kāraswarūpa (Om is his form), when identified with Ganesha, refers to an understanding that he incarnates as the primary sound. [The Ganapati Atharwashirsa gives an account of this connection. Swami Chinmayananda translated the following relevant statement:
(O Hyang Ganapati!) You are the (Trinity) of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesa. You are Indra. You are fire (Agni) and air (Bayu). You are the sun (Surya) and the moon (Candrama). You are Brahman. You are (the three worlds) Bhuloka [earth], Antariksa-loka [space], and Swargaloka [heaven]. You are Om. (That is a sign, that You are all these things)
