MASKS BARONG RANDE "WATCH THE TAKSU TO HIM"




The mask functions as a very sacred ritual ceremonial object. Masks are believed to have magical powers, supernatural powers for those who are able to wear sacred masks. On the other hand, masks are believed to have the power to repel evil, for example, the power of evil spirits, epidemics. Masks also function as guardians of someone who has died, and temple buildings, and houses. In Balinese Hindu society, the cultural tradition of masks as ceremonial objects and as part of the performing arts are interrelated or function together. The performing arts of masks in Balinese society support all activities of traditional ceremonies and religious rituals. Mask performing arts in Bali are of many types and groups, each of which has its own function. The famous Balinese traditional mask performing arts were Pajegan mask, Panca mask, and then developed Prembon masks and Celantungan Bondres. The bondres figure is the personification of the people's group; the facial expression of the bondres mask does not have a special grip or wanda like the masks
